Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), Federal University Lokoja chapter, has called on the Federal Government to release their withheld salaries and implement their other outstanding demands.
The aggrieved workers made the call during a protest at the premises of the university campus on Tuesday to demand the release of their withheld four months salaries.
Addressing members, Chairman of SSANU FUL chapter, Comrade Adedeji Kazeem Suarau called on the government to hasten the implementation of their demands to avoid a total breakdown of university education.
According to him, all the University unions went on strike in 2022, and because of that the then President Muhammadu Buhari invoked “No-work-No-pay” policy.
He said when President Ahmed Tinubu came on board, he pardoned and gave approval that the withheld salaries be paid, but to their dismay, their sister union, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), were paid while the other non teaching staff were left out. And after enquiries they were told an approval was still being expected and that informed their decision to embark on the protest.

He said their promotion arrears have been lingering since 2018 saying some members were paid while were left out till today noting that the economy is biting on their members as even the wage awards to cushion the effect of removal of subsidy was not being paid running to four months.
He urged the federal government to wake up to its responsibility by paying all their monies including earned allowance.
He added that, if the government refused to listen to their demands, they were going to shutdown the country.
Also speaking, the NASU Chairman of FUL, Comrade AbdulAzeez Yusuf said the union had no option than to protest saying they have exhausted all their patience hence, the need for the protest.
He advised the government to wake up by doing the needful otherwise they can not guarantee further industrial harmony.
