The Deputy Chief Whip House of Representatives, Barr. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has described teachers as heroes whose contributions to society cannot be overemphasized.

Hon Nkeiruka made the remark on Tuesday in Abuja while commemorating this year’s World Teachers’ Day.

Barr Nkeiruka also noted that no society can grow beyond the capacity of its education system in which teachers are significant stakeholders who must be prioritized.

Speaking further, the ranking lawmaker said the teaching profession must be accorded its pride of place through regular and prompt payments of salaries and other emoluments, abolition of casualization of teachers as well as strengthening of teacher training.

Onyejeocha urged the society to also normalize honoring of those who have dedicated their lives to imparting knowledge on others either at home as parents, teachers in the classrooms or as tutor and trainers at training facilities.
