Rev. Samuel Ogwu of the ECWA Gospel Church, Lokoja, has appealed to the nation’s leadership at all levels to govern with the fear of God in their hearts, so as to have a better country.
Ogwu made the call at the Church’s programme, organised by the ECWA Gospel Youth Fellowship, tagged: “Tamim Derox”, to mark the Independence Day celebration on Monday in Lokoja.
The cleric advised Nigerian leaders to know the purpose of going to that position, which was to serve others by developing the people and the land, saying development in the nation should not be one sided.
“I am advising leaders at all levels to remember the public which is why they are there to serve, and not positioning themselves in such away that people will not be able to have access them.
“Every politician contesting for any position should know they are going there to serve and not to be served, see themselves as servants to the people and look unto God,” Ogwu said.
He also appealed to the people not sell their votes because when they did, by the time such politicians get to that place they would loot the treasury and people would not be able to talk.
He further urged INEC to stand by the oath of office they took which was the constitution of Nigeria, saying they should not be bought over with money
He added: “For us to have the right leaders we must do the right thing for Nigeria to develop and have peace.
He noted that the program was aimed to encourage the youths that corruption in this country could be tamed If we go back to the root which is the word of God.
“We are training the youths to understand that corruption can be tamed if leaders go to that position of power with God’s standard.
“We want them to understand that politics is good and not evil or a dirty game, it is the people that are involve in politics that are dirty,” the cleric said.
Justice Moses Gwatana, from Kogi State Judiciary, who spoke at the event, said the problem the nation has was how to explore and utilise her numerous resources.
“God loves and have interest in Nigeria and has endowed us with numerous resources both human and natural to help us as Nigerians.
“God will help our leaders to focus their attention on the things that will benefit Nigerians irrespective of religious, tribe, language or political affiliations.
“The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. When we fear God, he will guide and give us the wisdom on how to utilise the resources he has given to us,” Gwatana said.
He added that for any actions and policy of leadership, they should seek the direction and guidance of God so that all would be well with Nigeria.
He, however, advised Nigerians to go and get their permanent voters card (PVC) and participate in the voting process by electing their choice into power so that they would have no cause to regret it.
“Since INEC is independent, they should provide a level playing ground for all the parties, and not be teleguided by anybody.
“They must do everything transparently so that the Will of God would manifested before, during and after the election,” Gwatana advised.
Mr Victor Igunnugbemi, the President ECWA Gospel Youth Fellowship, said that theme “Tamim and Derox” was a mandate from God, which means total “Liberty & Total Freedom”.
“For us to have total freedom as a nation, we must have access to total liberty which is Jesus Christ. We must preach the gospel of Christ to proclaim total freedom in Nigeria,
“If everyone of us are having the fear of God in us, the corruption we are talking about will not be there, because our ultimate goal should be to make heaven.
“I advise the youth to imbibe the fear of God, caution themselves and abstain from sins,” Igunnugbemi said.
