Kogi To Commence Payment of Primary School Teachers Salaries Tomorrow

Primary School Teachers in Kogi State would from tomorrow start receiving their October and November salaries.

Kogi State Governor, Capt Idris Wada gave the hint after meeting with the State Executive Members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Kogi State branch.

The Governor who was represented at the meeting by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, said machinery has been put in place for payment of all outstanding salaries owed primary teachers in the State, thanked them for their patience while efforts he added is on – going to normalize discrepancies noticed in the payroll of teachers, for monthly salaries to be regular next year.

Capt Wada disclosed that the problem associated with payment of the teacher’s salary, dates back to 2008, said it took bold courage and  measures to put things right by the present administration, expressed joy that the efforts is now yielding fruits for a comprehensive data for primary school teachers in the State, to correct the delays in salary payment.

Capt Wada assured that towards enhancing the quality of teaching in the State, government has put place a mechanism to verify the certificate of all primary school teachers in the State, assuring that aside plans by government to restore sanity to the teaching profession; government he added is committed to restoring lost standards to the teaching profession.

In his remarks, Comrade Abdullahi Suleiman, Kogi State NUT Chairman, commended the machinery put in place by government to clear backlog of salaries owed primary school teachers in the State.

The NUT Chairman said the union is in full support of the certificate verification exercise expected to commence soon as it will allow only certificated teachers deliver service to pupils.

Comrade Abdullahi urged for the speedy implementation of the white paper Committee put in place to study the report submitted by the interim management committee on SUBEB, said if implemented the report has the capacity to address issues of non – promotion, and delay in salary payment.

Also speaking, the interim Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, Mr. Stephen Akwu, said the present administration of Capt Idris Wada places a lot of concern on the payment of teachers salaries, disclosing that no nation can survive without the teaching profession.

Mr. Akwu, added that from tomorrow the salaries owed all primary school teachers in the State would be paid with the promise that the salary payment would normalize after the completion of the certificate verification exercise next year.
