The Director General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, has advised Corps members to be builders, shun corruption and assist Federal Government in its fight against corruption.
The DG made the call on Wednesday during his visit to 2017 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1, Corps members at the Kogi State Orientation Camp, Asaya, Kabba.
Kazaure, represented by the Director, Legal Unit, NYSC National Directorate Abuja, Barr. Tijani Ahmed, urged the corps members to put in their best to partner with the federal government to kill corruption in Nigeria.
“I have been told that you are doing very well and that you are the best set of corps members that have ever pass through this Camp.
“As builders and future leaders; I urge you to be patient, self-discipline, and continue the good work of being builders and shun any form of criminality and fraudulent act.
“I urge you to add value to your lives through the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC, especially its skills acquisition programmes to be self-reliant, and be good ambassadors of your parents, communities and the nation at large.
“I assure you that your welfare will be our first priority, always call on me when there is need,” he said.
Kazaure advised the corps members to dwell in harmony and accept the culture and tradition of their host communities, urging them to avoid unnecessary and unauthorised journeys.
He also urged the corps members to respect camp officials and comply with the rules and regulations put in place throughout the service year, saying that the faithful and decent ones would be rewarded.
The DG earlier went round the camp to inspect the ongoing construction of toilets, hostels and rehabilitations of other facilities in the camp.
Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Ngozi Nwatarali, noted that the state registered 1, 848 Corps members made up of 857 males and 991 females.
She said the interaction in the camp has been fruitful as the Corps members were in high spirit and more focused to have a successful orientation and a hitch-free service year.
She said the corps members have been adequately briefed on the NYSC objectives, camp rules and discipline, security tips, skills acquisition, posting policy, among others.
“Adequate security measures and several other preparations had been put in place to ensure a successful camping. We have also made arrangements for meals for their comfort.
“We have medical practitioners in the camp who are on ground to take care of the Corps members’ health, in case of any emergency and eventuality,” she said.
Miss Margarita Essien, on behalf of the Corps members, thank the DG for taking time to visit them at the camp, and promised to be good ambassadors of NYSC.
