As Nigeria commemorates this year’s Democracy Day, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate for Ogugu State Constituency in the 2027 election, Michael Samuel Idoko, has called on citizens to uphold democratic values and work collectively towards building a more prosperous, peaceful and inclusive society.

In a Democracy Day message made available to journalists on Friday morning , Sam Idoko described democracy as the bedrock of justice, development, accountability and good governance, stressing that its success depends on the active participation of the people.

According to him, Democracy Day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by patriotic Nigerians and democratic heroes whose struggles laid the foundation for the nation’s democratic advancement.

“Democracy is not just about leadership; it is about service to the people. It is about ensuring that every citizen has a voice, equal opportunities, and access to the dividends of governance,” Idoko stated.

The PDP candidate noted that sustainable development can only be achieved when leaders remain accountable to the people and place public interest above personal considerations.

He urged the people of Ogugu State Constituency and Olamaboro Local Government Area to remain committed to peace, unity and civic engagement, emphasizing that democracy thrives when citizens actively participate in the governance process.

“Together, we can build an Ogugu Constituency that works for everyone. Our collective strength lies in our unity, shared vision, and determination to create a brighter future for generations yet unborn,” he said.

Idoko further reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment, quality education, improved healthcare, infrastructural development and transparent governance, describing them as critical pillars for the growth and advancement of the constituency.

“As your son and servant-leader, I remain committed to championing policies and initiatives that will improve the lives of our people. The future we desire is achievable if we work together with sincerity, dedication, and a common purpose,” he added.

While congratulating Nigerians on the occasion of Democracy Day, Idoko called for renewed faith in democratic institutions and expressed optimism that the country would continue to make significant progress despite existing challenges.

“On this special day, I celebrate the resilience of Nigerians and the enduring spirit of our democracy. May we continue to build a nation where justice prevails, opportunities abound, and the voices of the people remain supreme,” he said.

The PDP flagbearer concluded by wishing the people of Ogugu State Constituency, Olamaboro Local Government Area, Kogi State and Nigerians at large a peaceful, successful and memorable Democracy Day celebration.
