  • Gov. Bello Approves N300m to Fence Itakpe Campus

The Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic, Dr Salisu Usman Ogbo has called on newly admitted students to be good ambassadors of their parents, the society and institution of learning.

In his address at the 29th matriculation ceremony of the institution in Lokoja, Dr. Salisu reminded the fresh students that their “journey to greatness has just begun”.

Dr. Salisu admonished the new students to be focus and shun frivolities, adding that the polytechnic has zero tolerance for all forms of social vices such as cultism, gun-running, examination malpractice, alcoholism, unhealthy social gatherings, cyber crimes, incitement to violence, gangsterism, misuse and destruction of school property, stealing and indecent dressing.

“You are therefore expected to exhibit high sense of discipline while in the Polytechnic, as the institution will not award its certificates to students that are deficient in character and learning.

“On our part, we shall continue to ensure that our graduates shall be responsible citizens who will contribute to national development wherever they find themselves,” he said.

The rector announced that Governor Yahaya Bello has approved N300 million for the fencing of the Itakpe campus of the polytechnic.

He said the fencing project will help secure the land from the menacing activities of the land grabbers and other security challenges.

Dr Salisu commended Governor Bello for his constant support, stressing his continued commitment towards the realization of the Governor’s aspirations for quality education under a conducive teaching and learning environment.

He called on students to take advantage of the security and added facilities in the newly renovated hostels in the institution.

“The hostels that were comatose before we came on board has been renovated and our students are back to the campus after over five years of staying off campus and prone to numerous security and immoral challenges.

“Apart from the 24 hours provision of portable water to the hostel from the dedicated borehole with 200, 000 litres capacity reservoirs, we also took delivery of a water tanker yesterday to compliment the existing arrangement.

“We are presently renovating the hostel facilities at the Itakpe campus with necessary provision of water similar to the one in the Lokoja campus.”

The polytechnic matriculated 6,216 students consisting of 5,229 for National Diploma and 987 for Higher National Diploma for the 2021/2022 academic session.
