Woman Remanded in Prison for Killing Co-wife in Kogi Community

A middle aged woman, Nefisat Usman has been remanded in a correctional centre for allegedly killing a co-wife in Ajakagwu community in Dekina local government area of Kogi state.

Nefisat was alleged to have accidentally killed her co-wife during a heated argument that degenerated into a fight on January 4, 2025.

She was subsequently arrested by the Kogi State Vigilante Service (KSVS) Ofu command.

A statement issued earlier by Head of the Department, ICT/Media Unit of KSVS, S. O. Saka, confirmed Nefisat’s arrest.

According to Saka, the suspect fled to Alloma, Ofu local government area, where she was arrested last Saturday after weeks on the run.

“On January 4, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Ajakagwu, Dekina Local Government Area, Kogi State, when an argument between two co-wives reportedly escalated, leading to the death of one of them.

“The suspect, identified as Nefisat Usman, is alleged to have accidentally killed her co-wife during the confrontation.

“Following the incident, Nefisat fled to Ofu Local Government Area in an attempt to evade capture”.

However, on January 25, 2025, officers of the Kogi State Vigilante Service (KSVS) apprehended her in Alloma, Ofu Local Government Area.

“The suspect has since been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force’s State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Lokoja, Kogi State, where further investigations are underway,” the statement read.

Confirming the arrest, Kogi State Police Public Relations officer, SP William Anya said the suspect was charged to court today and been detained at one of the Correctional facility in the state.
