The attention of #History Campaign Organisation and its candidate for the forthcoming Kogi State PDP Publicity Secretary election, David G. Itopa (History) has been drawn to a careless and irresponsible press statement signed and released by one Comr. Yahaya Idris (Special Adviser, Media and ICT to the Administrator of Kogi LGA) on Tuesday, July 16th 2019, where the said Media Adviser and his boss; Barr. Musa Tanko, the Administrator of Kogi LGA alleged that the widely covered and very heartfelt protest embarked upon by the workers of the Local Government was sponsored by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While it is nothing new that the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party which is known by its leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, to be a party of irresponsible individuals whose hallmark of leadership is blame-trading by their members in the art of governance, the History Campaign Organisation however appeals strongly to the Administrator to rather soft-pedal and listen to the grievances of the protesting workers as against playing politics with their demands and actions with which they have as workers chosen to press home their demands.

The History Campaign Organisation holds dearly and views strongly that the welfare of the workers in Kogi State is supposed to be top priority if really a government is serious about governance. But in an instance where the Governor has chosen to establish a norm that workers welfare is an option, how then would one really be surprised that a Local Government Administrator who’s office is alien to the  Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is going as far as to hastily reward a protest duly embarked upon by Labour by claiming that the protest is political?

It is simple. Governor Yahaya Bello has failed as a Governor, so are his illegal Local Government Administrators. They are overwhelmed with the demands of their offices.

We strongly advise that these illegal occupants of Local Government Area Councils should resign, take a crash course in music and performing arts and do what they know best, to praise Governor Bello all day long despite his colossal and unenviable heights of failure.

It is even more worrisome that the said Administrator is a legal practitioner by training, who should know better that one of the first point of call for any Government is protection of life and property and to ensure the well-being of her citizens. Where the Government has refused to pay salaries and the workers chose to air their dissatisfaction by staging a protest which is legitimate in the eyes of the law and faced condemnation by Barr. Musa Tanko, then we are constrained to question the authenticity of his calling in the noble profession of law.

In conclusion, the History Campaign Organisation charges Governor Yahaya Bello to rise up to the good of the workers in Kogi State. He should lead by example, so that his Local Government Administrators can follow suit including the likes of Barr. Musa Tanko who should rather see the light properly and act duly as demanded by the  duty of his Office as against irresponsible press statements that choose to undermine one of the core burden of his own sworn Oath of Office which is to cater for workers welfare.

Issa Itopa
