The Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, has expressed condolences to the Government and people of Kogi State and to the family of the late former Governor of the state and Visitor to the institution, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, who has died.
In a statement issued on behalf of the university’s Governing Council, Management, Staff and Students, Prof. Usman described the news of the former governor’s passing as “a rude shock” and said the university community was deeply saddened by the loss of “a distinguished elder and statesman” who devoted a significant part of his life to the service and development of Kogi State.
The Vice-Chancellor recalled that Alhaji Idris served as Visitor to the then Kogi State University, Anyigba, now Prince Abubakar Audu University, between 2003 and 2011. According to him, the late former governor’s years in office remain an important chapter in the political and developmental history of the state.
Prof. Usman described the deceased as a public servant who contributed his time, experience and leadership to the advancement of his people. He said his death is a loss not only to his immediate family but also to Kogi State and Nigeria at large.
“While death is inevitable and we remain powerless before the will of Almighty Allah, we take solace in the life of service he lived and the enduring memories he leaves behind,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
He prayed that Almighty Allah would forgive the late statesman’s shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus. He also prayed that God would give his family, friends, associates and the good people of Kogi State the fortitude to bear the loss.
