It is no longer news that after the ceremonial emergence of comr. Ajagun Samuel Opeyemi led executive and the comr. Olupehin Margaret led senate, a group of bad losers led by one Damilare Abraham and Juwon Oloruntoba have continued to front another parallel government. This duo who according to reliable findings are still serving as media aides to the special adviser to the governor on youth and sport, Hon. M.D Eseyin and the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Prince Kolawole.
Okun Students were very mindful not to elect the media aides of government actors into their leadership rank in order to prevent a future hijack of the union and this was reflected in the result of the January 29th poll.
It is on record that prior to the election day, the Hon. Speaker alongside with some other top government functionaries had prepared a ‘unity list’ and later made a futile attempt to force it on the electoral committee members. The speaker who had gone ahead to squander millions of naira to pursue his evil agenda on the fateful day of the election was resisted by Okun students.
Prince Kolawole will not be the first highest political officer from Okun land neither will he be the last. We have had a former deputy governor, an acting governor and speakers in time past but none of these noble men had dared to use their office to intimidate Okun students to the point of imposing a leadership structure on their union.
One would have expected that the honorable speaker who had narrowly won the popular support of his constituents to represent them in the house of assembly would guide such mandate jealously by defending public opinions at every given instance. At a time when the house of assembly under prince Kolawole’s watch is battling with 10 billion naira loan scandal, lack of transparency in budget preparation, inability to successfully pass the Local govt autonomy bill etc, one would not expect that the honourable speaker would place a student union issue as top on his priority list.
Whereas the Comr. Ajagun led executives has commenced official assignments, it is also important to send a note of warning to the honorable speaker that his dictatorial role in the choice of who leads our union in 2018 is noted and documented for record purposes.
While we are appealing to Governor Yahaya Bello to advise his speaker to withdraw his foot soldiers from disintegrating a union that has existed for decades unperturbed, we also wish to remind prince Kolawole that he will not continue to be in office forever. Someday, he will be out of office and the only thing that he will be remembered for are the legacies he led while in office (good or bad).
As a bonafide Okun student from unilorin, I’m using this ample opportunity to encourage comr. Ajagun Samuel Opeyemi and comr. Olupehin Margaret not to allow themselves to be deterred by these workers of iniquity that are bent on tearing apart our collective patrimony. I also want to advise comr. Juwon Oloruntoba and comr. Damilare Abraham not to allow themselves to be used as an instrument of disunity by politicians who are only moved by their political ambitions.
NAOS shall be great!!!!
