We have viewed with utmost dismay the embarrassing manner in which Kogi state’s scarce resources and our collective patrimony is been painfully, wastefully and frivolously expended and by Kogi state government under Governor Yahaya Bello.
It is of course in the public domain already how over 12 million Naira of tax payers’ money was wasted on advertorials in 7 national newspapers and other local tabloids in a desperate bid to show unpatriotic and unproductive loyalty to the state governor by the very incompetent Attorney General of Kogi state, Ibrahim Sani Muhammed. These advertisement of his ignorance was just to reply back to a statement credited to the very distinguished, competent legal luminary, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, the Deputy Senate President of the Nigerian Senate.
Distinguished Senator Ekweremadu had few days ago clarified and lectured those behind the purported recall misadventure, orchestrated by Kogi state government. He simply rolled out the constitutional impediment, financial implications and the very rigid processes attached to the recall of a Senator or a legislator, as the case may be. He had urged Kogi state government to apply wisdom and dissipate their energy, time and resources to a more meaningful urgent adventures like welfare of Kogites, payment of salaries and pension arrears which which in turn will add values to people’s life.
This statement credited to Sen Ekweremadu, was made in good faith and for the purpose of progress and constitutional clarifications at the floor of the Nigerian Senate.
The Deputy Senate President, a constitutional lawyer, former law lecturer and a PhD holder in law, has served as the Chairman Nigerian Constitution Amendment Committee since 2010. Therefore, he can be best described as an authority in Constitutional Law, and senior undisputable learned colleague in that profession.
The Kogi state government thereafter went ahead to place adverts, via the incompetent Kogi Attorney General in several newspapers, to misinterpret the relevant constitutional provisions of the law as regards to modus of recall.
Evidently, the outrageous amount wasted on this needless and frivolous advert in the face of biting economic recession and particularly, the sober status where Kogi state is the highest debtor of civil servants salaries and arrears among the comity of States in Nigeria.
Its worthy to note that Kogi is currently battling with plethora of challenges arising from non-payment of salaries despite bailout, Paris club refunds cash and monthly allocations which have occasioned the closure of tertiary institutions in Kogi for over 5 months, doctors’ strike and deaths of many pensioners.
Kogi west constituents and Nigerians should see critically that the shameful advert vividly confirms distinguished Senator Dino Melaye’s position and ours as electorate that Yahaya Bello-led government was actually behind the failed recall.
Those who said the state government is not sponsoring the purported recall can now see for themselves how the half-baked Attorney General goofed.
Distinguished Senator Dino Melaye have been openly and honestly vindicated by the incompetent advert from the Kogi State Attorney General, wasting 12 million naira tax payers money.
The good of the people, is the supreme law.
Thank you all.
