A social crusader, Comrade Austin Usman Okai has admonished Kogi state government to focus more on returning students at all levels back to school.

In a statement released in Abuja today against the backdrop of mass procurement of vehicles and equipment to security agencies and the vigilante group around the state, Okai urged Kogi state government to halt the mass sack in the civil service, pay bonafide workers their entitlements ‎and provide social safety nets as against providing unnecessary succour to were it is not required.

Okai opined that the situation where the Chief of Staff to the Governor confirmed that government is owing civil servants 12 months as against the alleged 15 months salary arrears is quite sad and unthinkable hence bringing untold hardship to the state workers.
According to the social crusader, it will be a wise decision for government to pay the lecturers and other staff of tertiary institutions in the state so students can return to school four m‎onths after closure.

Comrade Okai restated the commitment of the people to a robust and egalitarian society where justice, equality and rights of people are not trampled upon.
“The issue of security concerns is not out place but it will be counter productive to ignore the indices rightly observed as the entitlements of both workers and the citizens ‎are sacrosanct”, he said.
‎He raised serious concerns on the inhumane attitude to governance which has relegated the provision of infrastructural development and social safety nets to the background.

“It is laughable for a government that is built on insincerity and deceit to embark on re-award and flagging-off of on-going road projects with contractors not mobilised to site.
“How can you can flag off a project without mobilisation and as soon as the ceremony is carried out, the contractors will move back their equipment just like it happened in the cases of Kabba, Okene, Ibaji and Idah road projects?”
Comrade Okai said the only avenue to ‎return the state to the path of glory is to ensure social justice, stop indiscriminate sacking of civil servants, put an end to endless screening, pay workers as at when due and ensure youths are gainfully employed.
