You were right: we lost re-election in 2015 because of the wrong toxic combination of doubts about our economic credibility and the leadership of our Party – the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).  This is surely indisputable.

Leaders of thoughts have consistently recognised how too many of the public viewed us and is fighting to put an alternative forward that meets the challenges posed by these doubts. Looking at where we are today, those toxic doubts have been levelled down with glaring proof that, Kogites were in a hurry in their judgement.

My respect for Capt. Wada has grown every day over the course of this journey. Every speech he makes to the public has real content, new substance and is future-focused. I agree with him that we need a better party and real devolution so that areas like the three senatorial areas in so many other regards – can have the tools to be in charge of the destiny of their own local economies, public services and wider public realm. He is right about a rebalanced economy, early years and much more besides.

To those of you who are supporting him and are urging him to return as governor of Kogi state, I know it has not been easy. You were the first to be called ‘fools’. Few of those who sailed by the Buhari Tsunami in 2015, as you will have seen, the welfare vote has changed everything to bad and according to a large number of angry vocal people on social media they are the ‘fools’ instead.

How did it come to this? I know many APC colleagues who have shied away from their ‘oga kpatakpata’ nomination meetings because the atmosphere in some quarters of their party has turned ugly. As Wada supporters, you have watched him – with grace and patience – taken the brunt of similar ugliness on social media. Vicious, relentless personal attacks that no one should have to endure.

My respect for you, let alone him, is second to none. You should hold your heads high. Put Kogi State first, your conscience first, your Wada first. We are at a point in time where Kogites are saying, “Wada is the most qualified to rescue the State from total collapse, and hence should contest”.

Wada needs no preaching or any consultation from the public, whether or not to contest for the governorship race, but the public who needs him most at a time like this, is the one with the request. Whatever happens in this coming election, the public’s view will be respected and Wada will emerge as an enhanced figure who will speak for the mainstream majority in the State and the party (PDP) once again.

But the nature of this contest means that your second choice is now critically important. I ask that having put your State first – and a distinct vision for winning an incumbent government – please put our Party (PDP) second.

We have over 30 aspirants in our Party  but I assume we agree if I put it this way, that, Wada is the only aspirant that will be able to stop the present governor from remaining in office and that will ensure that our Party remains a Party in government. So we need your help.

I have worked alongside Wada in the previous administration. He is incredibly talented and he worked hard for our future. He knows that every minute we spend is another minute that we fail those millions of people in our State who need and deserve a government committed to a better, fairer, stronger, wealthier society. Presently, he is working hand-in-glove with other Party stakeholders in promoting a better campaign model in a way we have not seen for years now. And please never forget his efforts. As much as anything else, things was about tearing our Party apart, letting the ‘outside’ inside and changing our team but his present efforts are making it better.

Our Party’s weakness and incoherence in the past enabled almost decades of Thatcherism. Never forget that the State of our Party made that possible, almost more than any other factor. None of us need a crystal ball to predict the future when we can simply read the history books.

So, I am asking you to join the public domain that is tirelessly pressurising Capt. Idris Wada to be in the race and give him your first choice preference in the forthcoming PDP Governorship primary election in few months from now.

Either way, we are in this together: on the frontlines to build an opposition Party capable of forming a new government and transforming the lives of millions of Kogites for the better. Our Party (PDP) is the biggest, best and most successful force for progressive change that our State has ever seen.

Let’s keep it that way. Thanks in advance and see you on the frontlines.
