Kogi Women Get Support to Start Small Scale Businesses

A program aimed at empowering Kogi State Women residing in the Western Senatorial District of the State,through the granting of financial support to them to start small scale businesses, has been flagged off in Kabba, Kabba – Bunu Local Government Area with a call on Women in the State to work towards being self reliant.

Kogi State Governor, Capt Idris Wada, represented by the Chairman of Kabba Bunu Local Government, Emmanuel Funsho, gave the advice while flagging off the Kogi Women Empowerment Program, Kogi West Chapter in Kabba.

The Governor described women as home makers and nation builders, disclosing that with little support, women can grow their small businesses and be a support to their spouses.

Capt Wada maintained that his administration is resolutely committed through it Agricultural Transformation and Women empowerment policy to empower women in the State.

The Governor appealed to women to form cooperative societies to enable them access micro credit that would help them boost their trades, urged them to use the funds judiciously.

In her remarks at the occasion,wife of the Kogi State Governor and founder of the Kogi Women Empowerment Program, Hajia Halimat Wada, said since inception, KOWEN has empowered several women at the grassroots. She noted that women are better financial managers who when empowered cater for the children and their husband.

The first lady disclosed that the empowerment program is aimed at assisting women with little token to either start or boost their small businesses.

In her remarks, Mrs Tokunbo Awoniyi, Wife to the Kogi State Deputy Governor who also doubles as the Chief host at the program disclosed that the scheme aims at empowering several women at the first phase.

Mrs Awoniyi, described women of the west senatorial district as very reliable, hard working adding that they have shown that with little support they can be self reliant.

Mrs Awoniyi thanked the Wife of the State Governor, Hajia Halimat Wada for initiating and empowering women across that State.

She called on the women to reciprocate KOWEN’s gesture by being resourceful with the empowerment given to them.

Highlights of the program was the presentation of good will messages from Hajia Maiyaki Zubaida, State Woman Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Patience Mameh as well as the flag off of the empowerment program where cash amount were given to some selected women across the seven Local Government Areas of the West Senatorial District to boost the trade.
