Kogi State Government has signed multi billion naira contract with the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), for the stabilization, reclamation, and channeling of Ozuri gully erosion site in Adavi Local Government Area.
The contract for civil works in Ozuri is aimed at proffering lasting solutions to concerns of environmental degradation in the community.
Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Victor Omofaiye, who represented Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello at the ceremony, noted that the administration is an environment friendly government and cares for the people of the state.
He stressed the determination of government to ensure that Ozuri community is transformed for the benefit of the people of the area.
Governor Bello emphasized that Kogi State under his watch has a culture of proper care for the environment, considering that only by so doing will the environment be conducive for human and economic growth.
He urged the contractor to immediately mobilize to site and deliver within the time frame provided for in the terms of reference of the contract.
The Project Coordinator of Kogi NEWMAP, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto, in her opening remarks at the occasion, noted that the Governor has shown so much concern towards solving environmental issues in the state despite the dwindling allocation to the state.
She commended the Governor for the release of substantial counterpart funding, which ensured the seamless payment of compensation to Project Affected Persons (PAPs), in order to pave the way for the commencement of civil works by the contractors.
She further noted that this was the third in the series of NEWMAP intervention where contractors are already on sites across the state.
