A former state chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, Chief J.S Odawn, declared that governorship tickets do not expire.

He faulted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has no power to fix dates for primary elections of political parties, stressing that only the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP has the right to fix dates for primary elections.

“To have a primary election or not is a party affair. INEC has no power to insist or fix primary elections for any political party,” he said, pointing out that some desperate aspirants may have infiltrated the ranks of the election umpire over the matter.

Chief Odawn confirmed that the party is still consulting stakeholders on the desirability or not of having a fresh primary election, saying that it is costly and capable of dividing the party.
