There seems to be a ray of hope for the 142 workers of the defunct Kogi State Transport Company, Kogi Travellers, who were disengaged when the company became moribund as the State Government has put necessary administrative machinery in place to look into their plights.

The   Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Abdulraham Wuya disclosed this while responding to questions on their status from the Chairman, the House Assembly Committee on Works and Transport, Hon Nathaniel Taiwo at the 2015 budget defence at the Chamber of the Assembly, Lokoja.

According to him, immediately the ministry was created, an administrative committee was set up to look into the plights of the affected staff, adding that efforts are in pipeline to resuscitate the company.

He stated that the first step in reabsorbing the staff was the setting up of the committee to address their plights, pointing out that any worker that is fit would be considered for re-absorption into the new company which would be driven by Private Public Partnership (PPP).

Alhaji Wuya disclosed that the second Phase of the transport scheme which is inter-state transport service would soon take off, while expressing satisfaction with operation of the first phase of the Lokoja Metro line.

Earlier, Hon Taiwo enjoined the ministry to look more aggressively in the area of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), noting that the development of Ultra-Modern stop-over Motor Park for the state would go a long way in boosting the state revenue when completed.

The lawmaker urged the ministry to be prudent in spending funds allocated to them in view of the dwindling allocations accruing to the state from the federation account.
