The Kogi State Government has ordered an immediate halt to the planned installation of a new Seriki Hausa in Oworo Land, which was scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
The directive was issued following a high-level meeting presided over by the Permanent Secretary in the Kogi State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Eniola Enimola. The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives of the Bajana of Obajana, the Olu of Oworo, and the Chairman of the Lokoja Local Government Area.
Speaking at the session, Mr. Enimola announced that all parties involved in the planned installation exercise have been directed to suspend the process forthwith, stating that the exercise failed to follow established due process.
The Permanent Secretary explained that the state government’s swift intervention became necessary to forestall any potential breakdown of law and order. He emphasized that the administration will not allow the peace of any community in the state to be jeopardized over chieftaincy disputes.
Consequently, Mr. Enimola directed that the status quo be maintained on the traditional stool until further notice or until the matter is amicably resolved by all affected parties.
Reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining harmony across the state, the Permanent Secretary stated that the decision to stop the installation was guided strictly by the need to avert public disturbance in the affected community. He urged the parties to embrace constructive dialogue and adhere to due process in resolving the contention, assuring the public that the government will continue to closely monitor the situation to guarantee lasting peace in Oworo Land.
