Kogi State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Asiwaju Asiru Idris has hailed Governor Yahaya Bello for his development strides in Okunland, urging his people to always support government programs and policies in order to keep attracting dividends of democracy to the area.
The Commissioner made the call during this year’s Isanlu Day Celebration, assuring the people of government’s continued development of infrastructure in Isanlu. Asiru hinted at government’s plan to give the town a new look.
“We thank the Governor for awarding the Ijowa-Ejuku-Ife Olukotun-Iyamoye road and his determination to fund the project to completion. Our people have seen the difference between bad governance and good governance. When completed, the road will solve the hardship experienced by commuters who ply it.
“We also thank the Governor for facilitating the restoration of power to Isanlu after years of darkness. The gesture has helped restore our pride as a people and rebound our economy to life. Our General Hospital has also been listed for renovation and upgrading to provide quality healthcare to our people. The water facility provided in the hospital has been completed.
“The administration of Governor Yahaya Bello has proven commitment to the realization of our desire in using the Omi Dam to provide food and jobs for our people. I have decided to explain all of these to open our eyes to what this government is doing across the state and in particular, the people of Isanlu”.
Also, the Wife of the Governor, Hajia Rashida Bello used the occasion to grant financial incentives for business development to 50 women across the town. She was represented at the occasion by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mrs Olamide Adesoro.
On his part, the Governor who was represented by his Director General on Media and Strategy, Kingsley Fanwo, thanked the people of Isanlu for their unflinching support to his administration. He said he will continue to strive for the development of the state.
He said: “In Idris Ashiru, you have a great son who is helping our state achieve our New Direction Agenda. In our government, he has been a great Ambassador of his people. Our administration has enjoyed tremendous support from the people of Isanlu and Yagba East in general.
“My decision to rehabilitate the Ijowa-Ife Olukotun- Iyamoye road was borne out of our drive to provide good roads for rural dwellers and enable them transport their products to the market. Our government is proving to the whole world that rural dwellers deserve the best of roads too. Before the end of this year, we shall demonstrate further to the people of Kogi State that our divine mandate is meant for development and progress”.
The Governor thanked the civil servants in the state for their perseverance in the course of the Staff Verification Exercise, saying the exercise will soon be over and the government will “strike a balance between the welfare of the people and the need to sanitize the civil service which is currently a cesspit of corruption and inefficiency”, insisting that the exercise will change the orientation of workers towards serving the people.
“Every Kogite believes the Verification Exercise is a necessity. It is also true that some people are concerned over the number of months devoted to the exercise. As a government, we are trying to do what is best for our state. The exercise will soon be over and sanity shall return to our civil service. Under my watch, the civil service will be efficient”, he pledged.
The highlights of the occasion were the beautiful cultural displays by different groups in Isanlu and the conferment of chieftaincy titles on the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Dr Folashade Arike Ayoade as the Yeye Oba of Isanlu and the Commissioner for Finance, Asiwaju Idris Asiru as the Aare Fiwagboye of Isanlu.
