In a bid to safeguard the health and wellbeing of persons in custody and security personnel across Kogi State, the State Government, under the directive of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, has rolled out a comprehensive mobile medical outreach at the Koton Karfe Correctional Centre.
The health intervention, executed on Friday, September 25, 2026, by the Kogi State Ministry of Health, provided vital medical screening and treatment to no fewer than 188 inmates and staff of the custodial facility.
Led by Dr. Komolafe, the mobile medical unit deployed cutting-edge medical equipment, including Portable Digital X-ray technology equipped with Artificial Intelligence for the rapid screening of tuberculosis and other respiratory conditions. The team also collected various clinical samples from beneficiaries for advanced diagnostic testing.
Speaking on the initiative, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adams Abdulazeez, stated that the intervention was personally mandated by Governor Ododo to ensure that persons in correctional centers receive essential healthcare and are not marginalized due to their confinement.
The Commissioner noted that Governor Ododo expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the ongoing structural reforms within the nation’s custodial system and for supporting Kogi State through key interventions under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He added that the state government remains fully committed to backing federal efforts aimed at improving the welfare, security, and dignity of inmates.
Beneficiaries at the facility expressed deep gratitude to the Governor for the compassionate gesture. An inmate who shared his emotion during the exercise remarked that he had felt forgotten by society until the arrival of the medical team, which served as a reassuring reminder of his dignity.
Dr. Abdulazeez praised the management, officers, and inmates of the Koton Karfe Correctional Centre for their orderly conduct and cooperation throughout the exercise. He announced that the Ministry of Health will sustain the drive and extend identical medical interventions to other correctional centers across the three senatorial districts to ensure zero exclusion in the state’s healthcare delivery model.
