The Area Superintendent of The Apostolic Church, Lokoja, Pastor Alfred Funsho Amode escaped being kidnapped around Osara village along Lokoja-Okene highway on Sunday.

The Clergyman, who attributed his safety to God’s miracle, stated that his experience in the hands of the kidnapper numbering about fifteen was not that easy but due to God’s divine intervention, he was let off without injury even though they planned to take him into a bush.

Answering questions from journalists in his residence at the Apostolic Church Street, Ajara Quarters Lokoja, he urged the security agencies to be more proactive and God-fearing if the menace of kidnapping will be a thing of the past in Kogi State.

“If men and women with the fear of God were drafted into security forces, such men will neither aid nor abet criminals as currently being witnessed in the country.

“It is very unfortunate that entry into security service had depended on who you knew rather than merit and the fear of God.

“This is why kidnapping and other vices will be taking place right under the nose of security personnel’s and they will look the other way,” he said.

Asked whether he was the only victim during the incidence, he said that other vehicles were attacked in which some of the occupants were taken into the bush in broad daylight.

“What is surprising was that the incident happened just two electric poles away from a security checkpoint. In fact, I thought it was the security operatives that engaged them in a shoot out.

“One of the kidnappers approached us and ordered us to follow them into the bush. At this point, God intervened and told me not to follow him beyond that point and I refused.

“I then forcefully broke loose from him and fell back ward hitting my head on the road pavement”

He attributed his escape to the power of God who ‘arrested the kidnapper until soldiers from nearby Osara village arrived and they fled but not without two victims which they fled into the bush with.
