Kogi Assembly Reiterates Commitment to Resolve Executive/Judiciary Impasse

The committee set up by Kogi State House of Assembly to resolve face off between the Executive and the Judiciary arms of government in the state has reiterated its commitment to task.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Abdullahi Bello stated this during the maiden meeting the representatives of the state government at the State House of Assembly complex, Lokoja. 

Hon. Bello commended the initiative of the state government in embarking on the exercise and the ease at which it was carried out with out.

The lawmaker promised to interface with the Chief Judge, Justice Nadir Ajana as soon as he is back from overseas trip and commended the state government for the confidence it has on the state legislature in resolving the impasse. 

Earlier, the state government delegation led by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Ayoade briefed the committee on the rationale behind the pay parade and Table Payment which resulted into the impasse between the two arms of government. 

She said the reason behind the exercise was to have biometric data capturing of the state workers in order to know its exact workforce pointing out that the exercise is intended to ascertain the genuine workers in government payroll.

Speaking on what resulted into current face off, she revealed that the intention of the government was made known to the State Chief Judge, Justice Nasir Ajanah through a letter written by her to make available the staff payroll but this was turned down pointing out the intention of the government was not another round of screening as erroneously believed.

In his remark, the Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Idris Ashiru revealed that the sum of 450 million Naira for the payment of Judiciary workers is already in the banks only for them to comply with Table Payment before they would be paid.

According to him 451 cheques have not been claimed despite the mop up exercise carried to give opportunity to those who could not come due to one reason or the other. 

Hon Ashiru stated that in the State House of Assembly, two cheques are yet to be claimed and commended the state legislature for complying with the state government on Table Payment exercise pointing out that the intention of the government is to block wastages and have a data base of its work force.
