Kabba/Bunu: Prince Kolawole Matthew Inter-Schools Quiz Competition Kicks off

The quiz competition initiated and organized by Hon. (Prince) M.O. Kolawole for secondary schools in Kabba/Bunu LGA which coincidentally covers his constituency kicked off today, 30th January, 2017 at St. Augustine’s College Kabba.

In his opening remarks, Hon. Kolawole Matthew appreciated all present for honouring the invitation as their attendance is proof of love for academic progress as well as moral and spiritual development of Kabba/Bunu constituency. Hon. Kolawole Matthew promised to organize more quiz competitions, debates, workshops, symposiums, sports competitions and scholarship awards for public and private schools to encourage and improve the desire of students to enhance their knowledge and academic pursuits.

Hon. Kolawole Matthew stated that these programs will be rolled out on a continuous basis and are meant to render selfless service to his constituents. He pointed out that the quiz competition is an avenue to develop the potentials and engage our youth in fruitful activities that will make them useful to the society apart from promoting unity and fostering harmonious academic environment among youths. He enumerated efforts made by him to revamp the educational standard in Kabba/Bunu LGA with the award of scholarship to twenty (20) indigent students in 2016 and fifteen (15) others in 2017 in various secondary and tertiary institutions will plans to do more. This is apart from the sum of five hundred thousand Naira (N500,000) given to the development associations in Kabba and Bunu to augmented their scholarship schemes.

Hon. Kolawole Matthew stated that all his programs and efforts are designed to complement government in developing the youths who are leaders of tomorrow especially with the encouraging disposition of a focused, vibrant and dynamic personality of the Governor, H.E. Alhaji Yahaya Bello who has promised to reposition the educational sector in the state.

Prizes for winners include cash prizes and scholarship for students and schools who excel while consolation will go to runners up and other participants. Hon. Kolawole Matthew promised a football competition in the second quarter of 2017 among secondary schools in Kabba/Bunu to engage the youth in sport activities to take them off the streets and an inter secondary school debate in the third quarter. He admonished parents to invest more in the education of their children especially the girl child.

In conclusion, Hon. Kolawole Matthew expressed his appreciation to the Principal of St. Augustine’s College Kabba for the use of the school hall and mobilizing to assist in making the program a success.

Hon. Ade Omofaiye who chaired the event commended the program and enjoined all stakeholders in the state to emulate such a worthy effort. Hon.Ade Omofaiye stated that inter-schools quiz competitions of this nature will inculcate the spirit of teamwork and healthy competition in students apart from promoting unity, peaceful coexistence and cordial relationships that will outlive their school years. Many talents he also believed will be discovered in different fields that will ably represent Okun people in competitions at state, national and international levels. Hon Ade Omofaiye called on stakeholders and constituted authorities to promote similar competitions in the state with government and philanthropists investing greater resources for the educational advancement of its citizens as qualitative education is a prerequisite for sustainable development.

Hon. Ade Omofaiye prayed for protection, guidance and abundant blessings for Hon. Matthew Kolawole as he brings dividend of quality representation to his constituents.

He then admonished students to shun all vices and face their studies because the sure way to succeed in life is through education.

Royal Fathers who graced the occasion include HRH, the Obajemu of Oweland, Oba of Okebukun in their goodwill messages lauded the strides of Hon. Kolawole Matthew in the development of his constituency and prayed for him to be enabled to do more.
The State Security Adviser, Commdr. Jerry Omodara in his goodwill message stressed that politics should be focused on the people and development which he said the government of Alh. Yahaya Bello is committed to while seeking support for the administration to deliver on its promises to the people.
The program will come to an end on 26th March, 2017.
