Kogi State is in the news again for the wrong reasons. I have seen a united house now divided and polarized. I have seen members of the same family become combatants in a war of “Mutual Assurred Destruction”. Truly, I can see threats of war. I can see the gladiators on both sides mobilizing and recruiting foot soldiers and commanders ready for a fight to finish war in our dear State.
I can see real preparations on each side. I see the oder of battle of both sides including their rules of engagement and their war arsenals. And I can conclude as student of war strategy that this is a very dangerous war in which both sides shall be losers.
The most dangerous aspect of this family misunderstanding is the way the followers at both ends are fuelling and spoiling for war. And I ask “Are there any gains in a war of attrition? We say we are a family and yet cannot resolve our differences in a family manner. When will enough be enough in the political war of Kogi State? And when the elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers. The fights of the giants cannot be beneficial to our people at this time.
The worst of this episode is that I cannot see anybody mediating or arranging any meaningful peace moves. If the neck of the child becomes askew at the back of the mother in the market place, the question will be “where are the elders? And if there are no peace initiative in Kogi State, then where do we go from here? And the question I keep asking without any satisfactory answer is “Where are the elders and leaders of the party at all levels before things get this bad?
Things were not this bad in the beginning, so why have the elders and leaders of this great Party kept quiet over Kogi matter for this long? Or are we saying the Party has no mechanisms to resolve Kogi crisis? The longer this crisis persist the more difficult it becomes to resolve. And I dare ask; “Are we going to face the electorates in future elections in a divided house like this?”
I want to appeal to all actors and gladiators in this matter to embrace peace and agree to a round table solution to our problems. It is often said that it is better to ” jaw, jaw” than to “war, war”.
We need to refrain from media war for the moment to allow a for proper resolution of our problems. And for God’s sake let the followers stop fuelling this misunderstanding with their actions and utterances. The Party belongs to all of us and whatever we make of it today remains history for tomorrow. Remember the saying UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL.
Please let enough be enough. And let the elders and leaders of this great Party do the needful and quickly too, so that Kogi can have the much desired peace. Let those who can pray, continue to pray for the peace and progress of this State. May God help us.
Amen.
