Leading aspirant for Kogi 2019 governorship election and former President, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr Omede Idris has assured all workers in the state that he will offer them the best care possible when he becomes governor of the state later this year.

In a release to commemorate this year’s Workers Day, Idris lamented the “shameful and pitiable conditions the very hardworking people of Kogi state have been subjected to.”

The aspirant, with high hopes of securing the ticket of his party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 2, 2019 gubernatorial poll in the state, assured the workers that he would make their welfare his priority.

He said: “I am a medical doctor. I care. Doctors and other health workers are known for caring. I want to care for my people in Kogi state. They have seen the worst of dehumanization under the present regime in the state. I am restoring happiness to hearts of our people. I am bringing development, job creation, security, power and good governance to our dear state.”

The immediate past president, Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN) extolled the workers for staying positive, dedicated and hardworking, even in the face of starvation and frustration.

He described as unbelievable the 38 months salaries being owed workers by the current government in the state.

He said: “It is clear to any right-thinking individuals the kind of crises that have befallen workers Kogi state. It has never happened. And, the people of Kogi state will never see this again.

“How can workers who are not paid for this long period of time make meaningful contributions to their state? These are people with children in different levels of educational institutions. How will they fend for their families? How do you expect them to have that sense of belonging to their state?”

He also commended the leadership and members of the organised labour for their statesmanship and patriotism in their effort and resilience to demand for what is due for workers in the state.
