Kogi State Governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello has assured the people of the State of his readiness to continue to strive towards improving the state and the standards of living of his people.
The Governor stated this while a group, Journalists for Justice paid him a courtesy visit in Lokoja.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor while receiving the group in Government House, Lokoja, the Director General of Media and Publicity to the Governor, Kingsley Fanwo said the state is improving its service to the people under the present administration.
“The Administration of Alh. Yahaya Bello is striving hard to position the state for growth and development. The Governor has strengthened healthcare delivery to the people, a development that has been severally applauded by the Federal Ministry of Health.
“The statistics we are getting are quite impressive and we have been noiseless about the revolution. To the Governor, what is most important is to impact the lives of the people of the State. I am glad that you have taken a tour of our
Healthcare Plus facilities. Government has made healthcare delivery the epicenter of her service to the people”.
The Governor also said his administration has changed the narratives of the state economy by expanding agricultural opportunities in the state.
“The target of this administration is to grow the number of Commercial Agriculturists to surpass the number of people in the civil service. Agriculture is fast becoming the most important sector of the state’s economy as many young men have taken to farming.
“Kogi State has emerged as one of the most agriculturally viable states in Nigeria with investors trooping in to invest heavily in the sector. Governor Yahaya Bello has made the Sector a major driver of our economy”.
He said security of lives and property has encouraged investors to invest massively in the state.
“We have invested heavily in security. You have been able to come here without fear because we have changed the narrative about Kogi State. Kidnappers and armed robbers have found Kogi unsafe while the people are very happy that government has lived up to its responsibility of ensuring security.
“We can’t have development without security. A lot of resources went into it because nothing is more precious than life”.
He said contractors handling projects in the state are working hard to deliver projects, assuring the people that the Kogi Diagnostic Center is being equipped to be “unrivaled in Nigeria”.
Governor Bello urged journalists to encourage reportage of development-oriented news rather than peddling of falsehood that can further endanger peace and harmony.
“In an atmosphere of chaos, nobody is safe. It is always safer to concentrate on news that can bring development to our nation. The 4th Estate of the Realm is hereby encouraged to support the anti-corruption fight of Mr. President.
“Kogi’s development has been under-reported by the media because some powerful forces are desperate to tarnish the image of the state for political gains. We won’t drag that with them. We will rather concentrate on the people and impact them positively. That was why we were elected to serve them”.
Bello congratulated Journalists for Justice on the immortalization of the  winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election in Nigeria, late MKO Abiola, saying the honor done him by the Buhari administration underscores the respect the President has for justice and equity.
He urged journalists to “fight corruption with the same vigor they fought imperialism and later, military dictatorship”, saying the President has silenced his critics by writing his name in the Democracy Hall of Fame.
