Hon. Dada Oluwasheyi a.k.a AyekeOninure is a political scientist, grassroot politician and former councilor in Yagba West LGA, Kogi State between year 2011 – 2013.
After proper consultation with various relevant political stakeholders, I wish to inform my supporters, electorates and constituents that I will be contesting as Member, Kogi State House of Assembly (Yagba West Constituency) in the 2019 general election.
He said: ‘My aim for contesting for the seat is solely based on improving the people’s welfare and bringing about social justice. I strongly believe the attainment of these aforementioned goals will bring about improvement in the standard of living and general wellbeing of the people of my constituents’.As part of his contribution to the wellbeing of his ward while serving as a councilor, he built a medical centre at Ward 02, Oke-Egbe. The medical centre was established to provide medical care services, improve maternal-child health, and sensitize the members of the ward on prevention and control of diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Cholera etc.
He stated unequivocally that his mission statement is to forge and foster a cordial relationship between the constituents and their representative in the house. To achieve this mission, he promised that his utmost priority is to create people-oriented programs and policies that would bring about prosperity and self-reliance.
The aspirant who reeled out his political manifesto said to achieve a legacy of sustainable development across the constituency, he is going to use participatory approach to ensure that the constituents are carried along in the planning, design, implementation and evaluation of constituency project through organization of regular constituent bi-annual meetings.
He promised that if elected,he would use his office to facilitate collaboration with the executive arm of government to bring about infrastructural development and economic empowerment. The attainment of this plan would bring about far-reaching economic opportunities for Micro, Small and Medium enterprises. He also stated that he would work tirelessly to formulate policies that engender welfarism, and bring prosperity to the people of Yagba West. Power has only one duty – to secure the social welfare of the people. So, for me the wellbeing of my people is paramount.
Hon. Dada Olusheyi averred that human capital development would be one of his priorities. Human Capital is a measure of the skills, education, capacity and attributes of labour which influence a person’s productivity capacity and earning potential. The aggregate human capital of my constituency would be determined by its educational standards. Hence, the education sector would be given utmost attention and not relegated to the background once elected by the people.
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Its aim is in knowledge, not of facts but of values. His contribution to the education sector would include but not limited to:
- Provision of scholarships to indigent students that will cut across Nigeria’s educational structure.
- Establishment of free educational coaching centres for learners preparing for external examinations such as Basic Entrance Certificate Examination (BECE), WAEC, NECO, UTME etc.
- Provision of visual aids, teaching/instructional materials e.g multimedia components, textbooks, IP boards, desktop computers and laptops.
These materials add verisimilitude to learning and makes the teaching and transfer of knowledge effective.
The aspirant admonished the electorates to desist from selling their votes in exchange of financial inducement ahead of the upcoming elections. He said a voter who receives gratification of any kind to cast a vote has not only kept himself/herself below the poverty line but has made it impossible to hold his/her representative accountable’.
In conclusion, he said he has no doubt in his mind that this time around the electorates will consider capacity, capability, antecedent and preparedness against any form of financial inducement as they elect their representatives.
