As the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and across the world marks the beginning of the Islamic New Year, 1st Muharram 1448AH, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2027 Governorship Aspirant for Kogi State, Dr. Folabora Adekoya Bryhm, has extended warm felicitations to the Muslim faithful, urging them to embrace the profound lessons of the Hijrah as a catalyst for personal, social, and political transformation.

The Islamic New Year, which commenced on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, following the sighting of the Muharram crescent moon, marks the migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Mecca to Madina—a journey that symbolizes sacrifice, renewal, patience, and unwavering faith in Allah’s divine plan. In a statement released by his media office, Dr. Bryhm emphasized that the essence of Hijrah extends beyond a historical event; it is a timeless call to positive change, self-improvement, and the transformation of society from division to unity.

“The Hijrah is not merely a physical migration; it is a profound transformation of the human spirit and social order—from narrow primordial ties to a global community bound by shared values of justice, compassion, and solidarity. As we enter this new year, I call on all Kogites and Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the virtues of patience, sacrifice, tolerance, and righteousness exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) during the Hijrah. Let us use this sacred period to reflect on our collective challenges and recommit to building a Kogi State and a Nigeria where peace, justice, and prosperity prevail.”

Dr. Bryhm, a seasoned leader known for his humility, strategic thinking, and deep-rooted connection to the grassroots, noted that the lessons of the Hijrah resonate powerfully with the political aspirations of the people of Kogi State. He reiterated his unwavering commitment to inclusive development, social justice, peace, unity, and sustainable economic growth—principles that mirror the transformative spirit of the Islamic New Year.

Just as the Prophet’s migration ushered in a new era of civilization, the 2027 governorship election presents Kogi State with an opportunity to embark on its own journey of renewal and progress. The challenges we face—insecurity, poor infrastructure, and limited economic opportunities—demand bold, visionary, and people-centered leadership. I am committed to being that leader, one who listens attentively to the heartfelt concerns of our people and understands the fundamental solutions to the challenges that have long affected us.”

The PDP governorship aspirant urged Muslims and all citizens of Kogi State to use the occasion of the new Hijri year to pray for the peace, unity, and prosperity of the state and the nation at large. He emphasized that the new year should inspire acts of kindness, honesty, and devotion to duty as necessary contributions to national unity, security, and development.

“As we mark this blessed occasion, let us remember that the true essence of leadership is service. The Hijrah teaches us that hard times do not last forever, and that with faith, determination, and collective action, we can overcome any obstacle. I stand with the people of Kogi State in their quest for a better future, and I remain committed to the movement to rescue our state and return her to the path of progress.”

Dr. Folabora Adekoya Bryhm concluded his message by praying that the new Islamic year brings blessings, peace, and prosperity to every household in Kogi State and beyond, and that Allah continues to guide the nation on the path of progress.
