The lawmaker representing Adavi/ Okehi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Engr. Joseph Asuku Bello has called on the Federal Government, especially the heads of security agencies, to check the activities of their personnel on major highways in Kogi State.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jamiu Habeeb, on Thursday, the Rep member expressed concerns over reported cases of breach of interstate lockdown along highways in Kogi state.

Bello stated that frequent reports fingered security operatives in the lockdown breach by allowing trucks loaded with cows and large numbers of people to enter Kogi State.

“In crucial moments like this when His Excellency Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello is working round the clock in line with the directives of the Federal and state governments to restrict movement across state borders in order to check the spiking of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, any contrary action of security agents at checkpoints especially the ones at interstate borders is counterproductive to efforts of governments at containing the spread of the Coronavirus.

“Activities of security agents in that regard constitute a major threat to the public health and well being of the people of Kogi State, especially my people in Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency, which hosts a good number of entry points into Kogi State,” he said.

While commending the efforts of the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello in the management of the novel COVID-19 pandemic which make Kogi State one of the two states in the country that has no single case, he urged security agencies and their officers in the state to carry out their duties with due regards to integrity and professionalism in order to justify the confidence repose on them by the government and people of the state.

He commended the effort of the Senior Special Assistants to Kogi state governor on security in the local governments for their proactive and timely response in their call of responsibilities.

Rep Asuku Bello charged the people of Kogi State, especially those of his Federal Constituency, to join hands in whichever way they can with the state government in the fight against the virus and in other areas of governance.
