The chairman of Adavi local government council, Kogi state, Hon. Salami Omuya Joseph, has pledged to support and empower a young orphan, Abdulrasheed Lamidi, who attempted suicide twice due to frustrations.

Abdulrasheed Lamidi who is in his mid-twenties lost both parents at a very tender age and was raised by his grandmother, a petty trader, attempted to commit suicide on Thursday, September 9th, 2021.

His younger brother, Yunusa Lamidi, who returned home to discover Abdulrasheed had swallowed a poisonous substance, raised alarm and neighbours rushed him to the hospital. He survived.

Abdulraheed made the same attempt a day after his recovery but failed as neighbours around Kabba Junction in Adavi LGA came to his rescue, and rushed him to the hospital, again.

The Adavi LG chairman visited him in the hospital and off-set his medical bills. Few days after AbdulRasheed was discharged, the Council Boss invited him over to his office on Friday, to find out the reasons behind the suicide attempts.

According to Abdul Rasheed, he was tired of living in pain without hope of a better tomorrow as he could not even help his younger brother to further his studies to secondary level after his primary education.

Moved by his story, Hon. Salami, promised to assist the unhappy young man and also extended help to other members of his family – the grandmother, younger brother, uncle and his wife.

He announced that he will take over responsibilities of the boy and his other sibling, instantly supported the grandmother to AbdulRasheed with cash, register AbdulRasheed with a standard fashion house that has professionally advanced tailor, encouraged him to learn fast as his government will empower him with every needed equipment required to stand on his own.

Also, the Council Chairman promised to enroll Yunusa, the younger brother, in secondary school as soon as the new session commenced.

The favored family could not hold back tears of joy as they prayed for Governor Yahaya Bello who supported the emergence of Hon. Joseph Omuya Salami as the Executive Chairman of Adavi local government and also prayed Allah to continue to guide, guard and uplift their benefactor.

The Lamidis are indigenes of Adavi LGA.
