A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi state, Alhaji Abubakar Idris has called on politicians in the state to play by the rule.

Idris, a governorship aspirant, decried the resurgence of political violence in Kogi state in the build up to the 2019 general elections.

He stated that past governments in the state worked hard to stem the tide of political violence, urging the current administration in the state to nip the resurgent spate of violence in the bud.

Addressing the leadership of Kogi West Youths Alliance (KWYA) who paid him a visit in his Abuja residence on Saturday, Idris warned that renewed acts of thuggery, widely believed to have the backing of the current government in the state, will do the state no good.

He decried the killing of Ojo Enesi in Okehi local government of Kogi Central, the continued disruption of peaceful political gatherings in Kogi East and other cases of political violence in the state. He called on security agencies to step up the game and halt the trend without further delay.

Speaking, the secretary of KWYA, Comrade Temitope Olufemi described the governorship aspirant as a great leader that has shown patriotic commitment to the growth of Kogi state.

Olufemi assured Idris that KWYA will sensitize youths across Kogi West on the need to shun social vices and acts capable to igniting political violence.

He stated that youths from Kogi West believe in Idris’ governorship aspirant and committed to making it a reality.

Olufemi called on other PDP aspirants to begin to think of self sacrifice, pointing out that opinion poll favours Alh. Abubakar Idris to emerge governor of Kogi state in the coming election.

He extolled Idris, describing him as a beacon of hope.
