Comrade Austin Okai has demanded more proactive measures on the volatile security situation in Kogi State owing to the attack on Senator Alex Kadiri residence in Odu, Dekina local government area.
According to Okai, the armed thugs stormed Kadiri’s country home in hired buses. Members of Kogi Elders Forum were holding a meeting on Igala unity meant to redirect the political development of the area.
Okai, in a press statement, described the invasion as a direct affront on the people of the area which is capable of triggering ethnic tension in the state.
He stated that the mode of operation of the hired thugs, allegedly led by an Odu-born Senior Special Assistant to Kogi State Governor and protected by some armed military men and the police, is a clear indication of efforts by people in authority to deny Kogi poeple of their fundamental rights to free association and interactions.
“In a democratic environment, it is be a negation ‎of the basic tenets of unhindered association by people believed to be threatened by mere gathering of people of like minds rather than encouraging same.
“It is unfortunate that thuggery and other social vices that will encourage unhealthy political rivalry, which was addressed by the previous administration, is now rearing its ugly head again due to ‎self-centred politicians whose intention is to mis-use power in government,” he said.
The activist stated that the action is condemnable, unacceptable and ill-motivated, especially at a time when political activities leading to the next election has not commenced. He asserted that the action is a ploy to discourage robust opposition in the state.
Okai said stakeholders in the state will not longer fold their arms when confronted with open provocation against leaders from Kogi East, particularly ‎the person of Senator Alex Usman Kadiri, whom the people of the area hold in high esteem.
He challenged the present administration in Kogi to move beyond lip service and window dressing in the area of securing lives and properties in the state similar ‎to what previous leaders in authority had done to keep the state in a secured atmosphere.
