The management of the Federal College of Education (F.C.E), Okene, under the leadership of Dr. Ibrahim Mosimabale, Provost of the College, has called on members of its host community to partner with the institution in promoting a clean, livable, and sustainable environment.
This appeal was conveyed by Mr. Patrick Ushie, Chairman of the College’s Environmental Task Force Committee, on behalf of the Provost.
He expressed concern over what he described as a declining environmental culture among sections of the public, particularly the indiscriminate dumping of refuse around the perimeter fence of the College.

According to him, such practices not only degrade the environment but also pose significant health risks, as the dump sites serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes, reptiles, and other harmful organisms. He further noted that with the onset of the rainy season, improperly disposed waste is likely to be washed into drainage systems, leading to blockages and increasing the risk of flooding.
The Provost disclosed that the College will soon commence a series of environmental initiatives aimed at enhancing the environmental condition of both the institution and its surrounding communities. These initiatives will include environmental awareness campaigns, tree planting exercises, and the evacuation of existing waste dumps.
While appealing for the understanding and cooperation of residents, the College management emphasized that environmental laws will be strictly enforced, and violators will be sanctioned accordingly.
The College reiterated its commitment to environmental sustainability and urges all stakeholders to play their part in creating a cleaner and healthier community.
