The member representing Yagba Federal Constituency, Kogi State in the House of Representatives, Hon Leke Abejide on Wednesday commissioned newly constructed accommodation units for soldiers at the Nigerian Army’s 12th Brigade, Lokoja, and immediately flagged off another housing project within the military facility.

The project, which comprises two semi-detached housing units, is aimed at addressing accommodation challenges faced by personnel of the Nigerian Army at the barracks.

Abejide, who undertook an inspection of the completed buildings alongside the 12 Brigade Commander, Brigadier General K. U. Sidi, commended the Nigerian Army for what he described as prudent use of resources and timely delivery of the project to acceptable standards.

He said the provision of decent accommodation would not only improve the welfare of troops but also enhance their operational efficiency.

“These facilities are designed to support the social and operational needs of our soldiers. When our troops are well catered for, they are better positioned to give their best in service to the nation,” he stated, urging beneficiaries to ensure proper maintenance of the buildings.

In his remarks, General Sidi appreciated Abejide and his wife, Chief Mrs Esther Abejide, for his efforts on security and commitment to the welfare of officers of the Nigerian Army.

“I want to appreciate Hon. Abejide most sincerely for improving the lives of soldiers by adding value to what a soldier can be, for a soldier to have this kind of accommodation anywhere in Nigeria that soldier will feel elated and will be ready to give his best. This accommodation is specific to Slsenior non-commissioned officers. These are officers within the highest ranking soldiers of the other rank cadre. They are exiting the Army in a few years, therefore it is good for them to understand what life will be like after service, so that they won’t go back and be living in huts and mud houses”, he said.

He added: “The Honourable has given the Nigerian Army this structure and we are sure he is going to give more, we are informed of what he has been doing in his Constituency and service to humanity. He is indeed a man committed to serving humanity with vision and purpose.”

Highlight of the commissioming ceremony was the handing over of the keys of the newly built accommodation to two beneficiaries of the 12 Army brigade and inauguration of a new accommodation project.

Abejide announced 50 percent upfront payment for the project with a promise that it would be completed soon.
