The scourge of insecurity in Nigeria is a multifaceted issue that demands a nuanced approach. It’s disheartening to see some dismiss the gravity of the situation, peddling narratives that undermine the government’s efforts to protect its citizens.
Let’s be clear: Nigeria is not a failed state. The government is working tirelessly to combat terrorism and banditry, and international collaborations, like the one with the USA, are crucial to disrupting terrorist networks.
The Nature of the Threat
Terrorists operate with international backing, exploiting local vulnerabilities for personal gain. To counter this, we need robust local intelligence and global partnerships. The Nigeria-USA collaboration is a step in the right direction, enabling the disruption of terrorist operations and the protection of lives and property.
Addressing Misconceptions
Some claim that seeking international assistance is a sign of weakness. This is a misguided narrative. No government can tackle terrorism alone, and it’s irresponsible to politicise the issue. Those spreading such rhetoric are, in effect, aiding and abetting terrorism.

As I’ve said before, insecurity won’t be a campaign issue in 2025. The people understand that addressing this menace requires collective effort, not petty politics. The government’s efforts, backed by international partners, will yield results.
