Former president of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Idris Omede has called on Nigerians to collectively imbibe the spirit of dialogue, progressive conversation and deliberate action for peace.

Omede made the call on Tuesday in a statement to commemorate Nigeria’s 59th Independence Day Anniversary.

The former president, Association of Professional Bodies in Nigeria (APBN) charged Nigerians to continuously initiate, innovate, develop, maintain and sustain human capacity resource in their respective professional disciplines and fields.

“Today 1st October, 2019 makes the 59 year of Nigeria Independence, when the Nation obtained her rights of sovereignty, identity, self determination and actualization, in line with the vision, mission, objective goals and  target of a united Nigeria, by our forbearers and modified over time.

“We thank and appreciate the roles played by the key patriots and national/state actors who laid their lives and resources for the nation- Nigeria. As a people we have enthroned democracy. This should be truly so in context, content and practice devoid of threat, intimidation, harassment and in secured processes through politics without bitterness, but of rational and productive ideas.

“As a people, we should collectively imbibe the spirit of dialogue, progressive conversation and deliberate action for peace, security, good leadership and governance for common good of the citizens, states and nation. May our nation continue to grow from strength to strength.

“We as a people must continuously initiate, innovate, develop, maintain and sustain our human capacity resource in professional disciplines and fields, infrastructural and socioeconomic developments. We should dissipate our energy in what binds us together, in the face of Information Technology and disruptive technology setting the stage to rule the world in the coming years,” he said.
