…Says Federal Character Must Be Foremost In Job Opportunities

The Nigerian House of Representatives have commenced moves to probe the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) over alleged job racketeering.
The move followed a motion titled matter of urgent national importance, moved by the Deputy Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Ali Halims at the resumed sitting of the house held on Tuesday, 29th September, 2026 wherein the federal lawmaker decried the deprivation of other qualified Nigerians.
While reading the motion, the house notes that the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Service was established by an act of parliament to meet the needs and aspirations of a greater Nigeria people including job opportunities for qualified Nigerians noting that the alleged current job recruitment exercise going on in the Agency is shrouded in secrecy.
The Deputy House Leader, Rt. Hon Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims further stressed that such activities are against the spirit of Federal Character and portend the danger of denying and depriving the potential of qualified Nigerians into the Agency to contribute their quarter to national development.
The House therefore resolved to set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the matter, invite the Management of the Agency be invited to appear before the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Character for a review of their staff disposition list and that the House Committee on Legislative Compliance ensure compliance.
The first leg of the motion was seconded by Hon. Idris David Zachariah of Idah Federal Constituency while the second leg of the motion was seconded by Hon. Mohammed Hussain Jalo Representing Igabi Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.
The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) is a federal regulatory agency under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security responsible for preventing the entry, establishment, and spread of foreign pests and diseases affecting plants, animals, and aquatic resources.
