Arrangements are in top gear for the 2023 edition of Iyara Cultural Day. The celebration is an annual rebirth of the indigenous culture of the people of Iyara, headquarters of Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
A joint statement by the National President of Iyara Development Association IDA, Alhaji Aliyu Badaki and the Director General of Iyara Cultural Day, Mr. Samuel Olorundare explained that apart from the celebration of the rich indigenous culture of the community, it will also feature the launching of a N250m appeal fund for community projects.
The statement further revealed that notable Nigerians, including traditional rulers, sons and daughters of the community from all spheres of life, are expected to attend the epoch making ceremony.
“The Iyara Cultural Day is the celebration of our unique culture such as Are Iyawo (traditional marriage ceremony of yore), masquerades and cultural troupes.
‘Other unique feature is the first Iyara Cultural Day to be graced by our Paramount Ruler, HRH. Oba Jacob Meduteni, the Eleta Oluyara of Iyara land.
“Other side attractions and features include raffle draws like last year where many consolation prizes such as mobile phones, television sets, motorcycle etc will be won by those who bought tickets,” the statement read.
The statement equally noted that the ceremony will commence at 10:00am at Iyara Town Hall, on October 28, 2023.
