Former Kogi West Senator, Smart Adeyemi, has expressed profound grief over the passing of former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, describing his death as a colossal loss to Kogi State and the entire nation.
In a press statement issued on Monday, September 21, 2026, Senator Adeyemi praised the late former governor as a remarkable democrat, compassionate leader, and statesman whose legacy transcended political, ethnic, and religious divisions.
Adeyemi noted that Idris possessed an uncommon capacity for tolerance and inclusive governance, distinguishing himself by his ability to accommodate opposing political views without bitterness or persecution.
“Alhaji Ibrahim Idris was a democrat in the truest sense of the word. He was a leader who could receive criticism without bitterness and accommodate opposing views without turning disagreement into persecution,” Adeyemi stated.
Highlighting the late governor’s leadership style, the former lawmaker emphasized that Idris governed Kogi State with a broad-minded approach, ensuring no citizen felt marginalized regardless of their ethnic or religious background. He stressed that Idris separated political differences from personal animosity, building enduring human relationships throughout his career.
