The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Tuesday confirmed 16 persons survived an auto crash in Kogi state.

FRSC Sector Commander in Kogi, Mr Lawan Lalu Fagge, made this known to newsmen in Lokoja.

Fagge said that 12 of the 16 survivors sustained bruises, cuts, and dislocations in the lone accident that involved a Toyota Sienna Bus near Koto community along Lokoja-Abuja road.

The Sector Commander attributed the accident of the bus heading to Abuja from Lokoja to mechanical failure, overloading, and speeding as well as worn-out tyres.

According to him, the FRSC rescue operation, which was carried out alongside the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the state government, Mr Suberu Yusuf-John, was successful.

He said that the injured victims were quickly rushed to a nearby medical facility at Koton Karfe for medical attention.

In his remarks, Yusuf-John, sympathise with the accident victims, who he said deserved good and adequate medical treatment.

The SSA decried the condition of the medical facilities in that area, which he noted were inadequate for handling critical emergencies and saving lives effectively.

On control of road traffic crashes, he tasked FRSC on strict enforcement of road traffic regulations, especially against overloading and use of unroadworthy vehicles on the highways.

He also called for the provision of better-equipped healthcare and emergency response facilities along the highways to improve medical care and save lives during emergencies.

“Motorists should also know that the highways are not race roads and should therefore avoid speed and wrongful overtaking to avoid accident and save lives,” he said.
