The attention of the Executive Chairman of Okene Local Government, Engr. Abdulrazaq Muhammad has been drawn to a media publication by one Shittu Abdulrahaman representing Chogudo family who tried unsuccessfully to drag the person of the council chairman into a purported land dispute between some clans in Okene and Adavi Local Governments as stated in the ill-fated write up.

The Chairman wish not to unnecessarily join issues with anyone in the media especially as the matter in question is before a court of law. However, due to the believe of some unsuspecting members of the public who may have come across the said falsehood, the Executive Chairman of Okene Local Government decides to make some clarifications and put record straight as it concern his person and the exalted office of the Chairman of Okene Local Government.

Engr. Abdulrazaq Muhammad at no point before or after being elected as the Executive Chairman of Okene Local Government join in a suit challenging the ownership of the disputed land by either of the parties and he is neither an interested party nor a defendant in the court case. If the court case is between Mr Shittu Abdulrahaman of Chogudo family versus Ogu and Esusu clans as claimed, in law, what locus standi has Engr. Abdulrazaq to either disagree, appeal or intentionally disobey a valid court judgement as alleged?

In his alleged sponsorship of thugs to attack favoured party in the land dispute, the Chairman wish to state clearly that the allegation is false, baseless and a failed attempt to discredit him for no just cause. It is on record that, Engr. Abdulrazaq Muhammad is a humble and peaceful politician applauded by all and sundry who abhor any act of thuggery in all ramifications. He has neither trained nor encourage thugs in all his private and public life.

Hon. Abdulrazaq’s peace efforts have been acknowledged by the good people of Kogi State, hence the write up is a cheap blackmail against him and a calculated attempt to seek undeserved public sympathy and cowed the judiciary to submission.

The issue of whether a court has or lack jurisdiction on a certain case before it remain the exclusive right of the courts to decide not an individual, group or parties in the case. Again, in law, when any of the party to a lawsuit disobey a valid court pronouncement as alleged, there are provisions within the legal frame work of the courts to seek redress and enforce such judgement. This of course does not include fabrication of lies and spread of falsehood in the media.

Okene Local Government under the watch full eye of Engr. Abdulrazaq Muhammad is peaceful and calm with members of the public going about their normal lawful businesses. The chairman has no report of security threat arising from land disputes or otherwise. The chairman therefore advise Mr Shittu and his co-travellers to seek further legal advice on the appropriate means of seeking redress in a civil matter such as land dispute instead of resorting to self-help and media propaganda to spread baseless allegations.

Finally, the council chairman enjoin members of the public to discard the allegations against him as it lack any iota of truth and has no merit.
