Across the length and breadth of Kogi Central Senatorial District, from the bustling streets of Okene to the rural communities of Adavi, Okehi, Ajaokuta, and Ogori/Magongo, one political conversation continues to dominate: who possesses the experience, capacity, and political influence to give the district stronger representation in the Senate?
For many residents, the answer is former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
Many Kogi Central residents say the people of Kogi Central are no longer interested in symbolic representation. They are looking for a Senator who can command attention at the national level, influence policy, attract federal presence, and ensure that the district receives its fair share of development. They believe the next Senator must be a bridge between the grassroots and the Federal Government, someone who understands the needs of ordinary people and has the experience to pursue those interests in Abuja.
According to many grassroots supporters, Yahaya Bello’s years in office as Governor gave him firsthand knowledge of the developmental needs of Kogi Central and the relationships required to engage effectively with federal institutions. They argue that this experience would be invaluable in sponsoring people-oriented legislation, influencing budgetary allocations, and attracting strategic constituency projects.
Supporters also point to what they regard as his emphasis on infrastructure, youth inclusion, women’s participation in governance, education, healthcare, and security during his administration. In their view, these experiences demonstrate the administrative capacity and political reach needed to represent Kogi Central effectively in the National Assembly.
Across markets, community meetings, youth gatherings, and political discussions, supporters say the expectations of the people remain clear. They want improved federal roads, quality healthcare facilities, modern schools, employment opportunities, agricultural support, rural electrification, clean water, enhanced security, and sustained federal investment in the district. They believe achieving these goals requires a Senator who combines legislative responsibility with the ability to engage relevant federal institutions and advocate consistently for the interests of Kogi Central.
For many who support Yahaya Bello, his prospective Senate ambition represents more than a political contest. They see it as an opportunity to leverage executive experience in pursuit of greater federal attention and development for the district. They believe his understanding of governance and public administration would strengthen Kogi Central’s voice in national affairs and help advance projects that directly benefit local communities.
As political conversations continue to gather pace, supporters insist that the future of Kogi Central should be anchored on experience, accessibility, and effective representation. In their view, the district deserves a Senator who will remain connected to the grassroots, champion the aspirations of the people, and work tirelessly to attract opportunities that improve livelihoods across every ward and community.
For these supporters, the message is simple: the journey to a more prosperous Kogi Central requires leadership that is visible, influential, and committed to delivering practical results. They believe Yahaya Bello possesses those qualities and are optimistic that, if entrusted with the mandate, he would strive to provide strong representation and advance the developmental aspirations of the district.
