The Kogi State Commissioner for Health, Dr Haruna Saka, has said that the government is working hard to get striking doctors back and has in the meantime engaged the services of some NYSC corps doctors at the state specialist hospital in Lokoja to fill the vacuum created by the strike.

The commissioner who disclosed this yesterday during a ministerial press briefing in Lokoja, said the government could not continue to leave its people in agony, hence the deployment of the corps doctors as palliative measures to bring succor to the people pending the resolution of the impasse with the striking doctors.

The commissioner who alleged political undertone in the lingering strike action by the state chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), said that government would continue to engage the striking doctors until the impasse was amicably resolved.

Doctors in the employ of the state government have been on strike in last nine weeks over percentage salary payments and other issues.
