Kogi Socio-political group, Uja-ache Igala has called for whistle blowing approach to the menace of kidnappings in the state.

It said a situation where no day passed without cases of kidnapping was of serious concern.

At a press conference in Abuja, the group’s National Chairman, Chief Goodman Akwu explained that the height of crimes and criminality in the state had never reached such stage in the last 16 years of democratic rule.

“The state government should adopt whistle blowing approach to kidnappings with a compensation of N2,000,000 to informants while they must also be kept secret”, the group suggested.

He described as unacceptable a situation where no foreign investor had indicated to invest despite abundant mineral resources in the State.

The group urged governor Yahaya Bello to reopen Kogi State University and all Tertiary Institutions that were closed due to striking lecturers, stressing that instability in educational system since this administration began was already affecting the quality of education.

“We are calling for the constitution of the Senate of KSU and boards of all Tertiary Institutions and reopening of those schools immediately because as we speak, over 20 lecturers have left the University and it is counter-productive”, the group stated.

They further asked the state government to stop retrenchment of workers and recall those who were sacked, noting that genuine workers had suffered untold hardship due to staff verification exercises done over one year ago.

According to them, it was justifiable that government should compensate those who lost their lives traveling from their community to Lokoja.

They said: “Government should compensate family of those who lost their lives traveling from their community to Lokoja for staff verification with N2,000,000, full payment of their salary arrears and gratuities”.
