The Kogi East Districts Development Association (KEDDA) has constituted a seven-member screening and engagement committee to assess the credibility and capacity of candidates contesting for the Kogi East Senatorial seat in the January 16, 2027 National Assembly election.
The President-General of KEDDA, Dr. Aaron Omaye, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, outlining resolutions reached at the association’s meeting held on Saturday, October 25, 2026.
According to him, the committee will coordinate the engagement process and submit its report to the association’s General Assembly on or before November 21, 2026.

Reaffirming KEDDA’s status as a non-partisan, non-religious and inclusive community development organisation, Dr Omaye said the association’s primary interest remains the peace, unity and prosperity of Kogi East.
He explained that KEDDA would engage with all candidates contesting for the senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, irrespective of their political party affiliations.
Dr Omaye said the engagement was designed to assess the capacity, credibility, competence and development vision of each candidate to ensure effective and quality representation of Kogi East in the National Assembly.
He added that candidates would be assessed based on their understanding of and commitment to Section 14(2)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which provides that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.
The KEDDA President-General assured the public that the initiative was aimed at ensuring that Kogi East secures credible, competent and development-driven representation in 2027, while promoting greater democratic participation across the district.
The association also called on all senatorial candidates and political actors to cooperate with the committee and conduct their campaigns peacefully, focusing on issues rather than violence, ethnic profiling and hate speech.
