The basic and fundamental responsibility of the govt (federal, state and local government) is protection of lives and properties of her citizenry as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Kogi state months now is experiencing an astronomical rise in criminal activities, the state which before now pride itself as one of the peaceful state with low crime rates has been in the news for many wring reasons. Citizens no longer sleep with their both eyes closed as one don’t know when’s the next criminal attack.

Arm robbery which was not rampant in the state before is now walking naked on the streets. A week barely goes by without recording one or two incidents of robbery. This appalling.
The most commonest of the crime now is the kidnapping. Since January, more than 70 people have been reportedly kidnapped, family devastated, ransom paid yet no arrest made. Kidnappers now dance shoki round the state.

Cultism and their activities are on the prowl and has kept the people in a surly state. In all these and many more, the govt is paying deaf hears or less concern to the cries of the people. Where have we got it wrong? Why can’t we sleep in our various homes in peace? Why? Two days ago Architect Salman Idris and his friend, Engineer Orenibi were kidnapped, yesterday Malle Isah was kidnapped. Between last week and now more than five kidnap cases have been recorded. Where are we going?

The govt of Capt. Idris Ichalla Wada maybe criticised for many reasons today but under his leadership, relative peace was enjoyed, criminals flee the state, social vices was in its all time low, etc. Why have we changed from our peaceful ways to the new violent life?

The security forces are either handicapped, ill equipped or accomplice as feelers had it. The govt tried in her effort earlier by acquiring the helicopter for the aerial surveillance of the state. The helicopter I heard was only here for two weeks, bit the crime isn’t a 2 week activities.

These crimes maybe polysemous but the causes are subjective. Until the govt takes a holistic steps towards tackling these malaise, it will definitely consume us all one day as crimes, left unchecked escalates rapidly.

The govt of Gov. Yahaya Bello must as a matter of emergency tackle these evils in our land. Road blocks should be mounted at  calculated intervals throughout the flash point of the state.
Even if this administration will have no achievement, please, let the peace be maintained as there can’t be any meaningful development under a porous crime – permeable atmosphere.

God bless Kogi State.
Together for positive improvement.
