A stitch in time, they say, saves nine.
Thus, the Federal Government is implored to look into the rehabilitation of the road network from Ilorin, through Okene in Kogi State, to Abuja, FCT.
Both commercial and private motorists for years now, have been going to Abuja, en route Ekiti State. This route makes a journey to Abuja abnormally lengthy, due to the bad state of the road. The distance, which should be covered within six hours now takes a minimum of eight hours drive.
In fact, Kogites, particularly the people of Kabba and its neighbourhood as well go through Ekiti State, which is anti-clockwise to their various destinations, because the direct route is bad.
Moreover, the number of vehicles (private and commercial) that ply the road everyday are numerous. It is also taking a toll on travellers, as fares are astronomically inflated, due to more money spent on fuelling of vehicle.
Therefore, I am using this medium to implore President Goodluck Jonathan to act fast on the rehabilitation of the aforementioned highways to minimise the rate of accidents on the road.
Also, reducing the fare paid by the people who ply the route, will go a long way in making life better for them.
However, the two neigbouring states, Kwara and Kogi states governors, Alhaji Fatah Ahmed and Captain Idris Wada, respectively, are also imployed to mobilise, in collaboration with the Federal Government to address this issue.
Also, Senator Smart Adeyemi should take this gargantuan task upon himself, as this (road) falls under his senatorial district.
However, to his credit, Smart Adeyemi had a large portion of the road rehabilitated by him, as potholes on Koto-Kharif, which should have been rehabilitated by either the federal or state government, was taken over by him.
