The Senate of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi State, has approved the introduction of a Resit Examination scheme for eligible final-year and spill-over students of the institution.
The approval was granted during an emergency meeting of the Senate held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
The initiative, set to take effect from the 2026/2027 Academic Session, follows a proposal presented by the Director of Academic Planning and Development, Professor Joseph Olukayode Ogunbiyi. It aims to assist affected students in addressing outstanding course deficiencies and concluding their academic programs within the university’s approved timeframe.
Under the approved guidelines, the resit scheme applies specifically to final-year and eligible spill-over students who previously registered for, sat, and failed courses required for graduation. The policy is designed to curb avoidable academic spill-overs and enable students to clear failed courses within their maximum allowable period of study (tenancy).
Eligibility Criteria and Application Guidelines
To qualify for the resit examination, candidates must meet the following conditions:
- Maintain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of not less than 1.00.
- Remain within the university’s maximum approved residency period for their respective degree programs.
- Obtain formal screening and clearance from their respective departments and faculties.
The Senate emphasized that students who registered for courses during regular semesters but failed to sit for the examinations are strictly ineligible for the program.
Eligible candidates will be permitted to register for a minimum of one and a maximum of ten courses, adhering to the standard credit-load regulations of the institution. Applications will undergo rigorous academic record verification by Heads of Department and Deans of Faculty before clearance is issued by the Bursary for final course registration.

Reacting to the Senate’s decision, the Chairman of Senate and Vice-Chancellor of PAAU, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, commended the Director of Academic Planning for the proposal and lauded the Senate for its foresight.
Professor Usman highlighted the strategic benefits of the initiative, noting that it would ease the financial burden on parents and guardians, reduce potential security risks associated with over-stayed students on campus, and facilitate timely graduation.
“Management remains committed to student-centred policies that foster academic progress and student welfare, without compromising the academic integrity and standards of the University,” Professor Usman stated, urging affected students to make effective use of the opportunity.
