Senator Ahmed Ogembe has been declared winner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) primary election for Kogi Central senatorial district.

The returning officer, Dr. Sidi Ali, announced that Ogembe polled 6,769 votes to defeat his sole challenger, Prince Murtala Omonori who got 240 votes.

Dr. Ali commended party members for their orderly conduct during the primary election.

Speaking with newsmen, Senator Ogembe said his emergence marked a new shift in the 2027 senatorial contest in Kogi Central.

He promised to lead ADC to victory in 2027, adding that the forthcoming election is a familiar turf for him.

“I am the most experienced in the race as we speak. Check other candidates that are in the race with me, none understand the job better than I. It is either one is learning the ropes or another trying to become a newbie in the national assembly.

“I have walked this terrain before, long before any of the senatorial candidates currently eyeing the seat in 2027. I have contested and won election in the senate before now, so I understand what it takes to win.

“During the 2023 general elections, I was still in the Peoples Democratic Party. I stood firmly with the party’s candidate because I wanted to ensure Kogi Central make history as the first zone to elect a female senator and I fulfilled that dream. Today, Kogi central can take her rightful place of pride in the state,” he said.

Senator Ogembe assured the people of Kogi Central of real representation that is aligned with their dreams and aspirations.

The ADC senatorial candidate said he is the most accessible politician the electorate can bank upon.

“As a former local government chairman, I understand the feeling and aspirations of my people better than others vying for the senate seat. Also, I am the most accessible candidate. That is not in doubt.

“2027 presents a defining moment for the future of our people. I will not indulge in any grandiose illusion. I am a practical servant of the people. I say what I will do, and do exactly what I say. The people can attest to this about my person.

“It is a new dawn in Kogi Central senatorial district. I will not disappoint my people,” he added.
